The "A" word

Adoption... yes that is the "A" word we should NEVER mention around the orphans who will be coming to the states this Christmas. We are told that even though the children do not speak English, that is one word they probably DO understand. What could be worse then getting their hopes up, only to be dashed? So... don't ask her if she hopes to move to the United States one day, or if she would like to live here, or anything pertaining to a permanent stay here. For her, this is an amazing opportunity to travel to the United States that she was chosen to participate in because of good behavior.

Here are our goals in hosting Irina this Christmas:
* To show her unconditional love and acceptance and introduce her to Jesus.
* To allow her to experience life in a functional American family (this is a little questionable - hee hee!)
* To introduce her to families that are prayerfully interested in adopting her.

Even though I have a soft spot in my heart for this little girl, God has only called us to host her. Praise be to God for the interested families that I've already been in contact with! Let's get this little girl a family!!

Did you know that in the Ukraine children age out of the system at the age of 16? Did you know that the older children often get overlooked for the younger children? Did you know how grim the statistics are for boys and girls once they age out at 16?

From the Journeys of Joy website:
"While all orphans deserve to have permanent and loving families, we have realized over the years that the older child is frequently passed over, and left to live lives that are often dangerous, and destined to criminal and other undesirable paths. To this end, Journeys of Joy focuses on recruiting families, either to host a child, and/or adopt these children, giving them a chance for a hopeful and productive future."
