Delayed Opening

We woke to screaming and excited boys announcing a dusting of snow. They were thrilled! You would have thought it was a blizzard. Irina, however, kept reminding us that in Ukraine the snow is usually up to her knees. No big deal. ;)
Darin encouraged me to declare a delayed opening to let the kids play in the snow before it all melted.
Irina wasted no time starting a snow ball fight. The public school kids were probably not too happy
with all our hooting and hollering while they were waiting to get on the school bus.
Amazingly I had four pairs of snow pants. Thankfully the kids are all pretty slim and were able to
squeeze into the "snow capris." So glad for tall boots to meet the bottom of their too small pants.
We worked on a snow man for a while, but our snowballs collected so much mud from the ground underneath that the kids gave up. Irina said, "Irina love snowman." She was the most determined to keep working on it, but we ran out of snow.
It was no surprise to me that Irina was too HOT. She is a little heater!

We gathered snow from all over the yard to build a "snow hill" down the deck steps.
This kept them busy for a long time. Can you tell they were having fun?
I'm so thankful Irina is such a tough cookie and enjoys all the craziness the boys do!

They stayed outside playing in the snow mud for two hours, then it was time to get to work.
Not an easy transition to school and a less then stellar day, but we did make some memories. :)
