Wrapping up the Winter

I'm thankful that our winter was relatively mild. It didn't drag on too much at all. Hooray! Although I'm not loving how chilly it is today, but I'm not too worried. Around here, we have lots of ups and downs until summer hits. Spring has only been here for two weeks and I'm already getting excited about summer. Here are some highlights and every day occurrences to remember.
These two older kids can be such a great team. They decided one day on their own to collect gum balls from the yard. I didn't ask them to do it. I didn't even realize they were doing it until I saw a bag full. Gotta remember these moments.
Remember our home decorating repainting project that we started LAST summer? Well, it's still going strong. Darin is a hard worker, but balancing work, travel, and family too. He's insistent to do it himself rather then to hire someone. He finished all the family room/kitchen. (We have an open floor plan.) Now he's chugging along patching, repairing, and painting in the foyer. He has rigged up all sorts of tricks to reach the high moldings and walls. Ack! Be careful, Darin!
Aaron is such a character. He propped up a big box and set up Ethan's horse. This is what I found when I went to check on his independent school work. I guess he was taking a riding break?
Obviously, shirts are optional for boys in the Smith Academy.
Ethan was taking a flexing break during his school work.
During Ethan's regular swim practices, we had some fun outside time when it was warm enough.
The morning of Ethan's first soccer practice, he was so excited that he immediately put on his cleats and shinguards. I'm glad I reminded him to change out of his pajamas!
These two boys are playing on the same soccer team this spring. I love that the YMCA worked with us to have them both on the same team. It is their first soccer experience. It's hard to start a sport at age 11 and 9 that many kids have been playing for years. So far I am thrilled with their experience. More on that later...
Sometimes a room has to get even messier before it can get neater. It's a constant struggle to keep up with all their "collections." We spent hours one Saturday organizing. I wish I could say it is still just as neat as when we finished, but I think it is always going to be a work in progress. Breathe mom, breathe. Don't sweat the small stuff.
Winter Swimming Champs for Ethan
Such a great way to end the swimming season! He earned some special ribbons and medals for his division. He beat all his best times for the events he swam in, but most importantly he had FUN!

This young lady survived her first extensive eye exam. She has healthy eyes, but it's time for some glasses so she can see things in the distance. She was so nervous, but the doctor was great.
Proud of her!
And these three waited so patiently in the waiting room just sitting there looking around and observing for at least 40 minutes. No shenanigans, no nonsense...hooray! Not an every day occurrence, but I'm thankful when they rise to the challenge. Great job boys!
